AFRO-CUBAN PERCUSSION AND SONG
I have been performing Afro-Cuban percussion and song since 2002 in various venues, and have taken lessons with several master teachers in Havana, Matanzas, Santiago, and the Bay Area. My performances have included singing back-up vocals for a 2007 CD recording with Los Ibellis, a professional rumba and folkloric group in Havana. I have also participated frequently in the Domingo de Rumba (Sunday community rumba event) at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley.
CLASSICAL VOICE
My professional interest in music began with my choral singing at Lowell High School in San Francisco, and my training in classical voice throughout high school and college. As an undergraduate at Barnard and Columbia, I took voice lessons at the Manhattan School of Music and was awarded Departmental Honors for my senior vocal recital. After college I continued to study classical voice while living in Siena, Italy, where I sang at weddings and private concerts. Throughout high school, college, and beyond I sang in various choirs, including the San Francisco City Chorus.
